Token Entry @ CBGB 1989

Token Entry from the Hawker Records, Free For All show at CBGB, April 9, 1989. I came across this video the other day and thought it really captured why Token Entry were one of my favorite live bands of 1989. Unfortunately I didn't make it to the Free For All show, but I did see Token Entry a few times at City Gardens around this time period and they always delivered. Sit back and soak it in… this one goes out to Chippy Love. -Tim DCXX

  3. Criminally underrated band from the NYHC scene. I remember interviewing them in a car on Ave. A before a matinée at the Pyramid back in 1989. Hawker might have been a disater in the long run but they were great- Who was the guy that ran Hawker? I talked with him on the phone all the time when i did a radio show. When I got called for Jury Duty in the Summer of '89, I was walking up a street from Canal and saw something Road Runner related and realized I was in front of the office. I walked into Roadrunner and basically asked for him and got my 15 minutes of what it was actually like to see a record company in Motion. Same with Fred over at Profile/ Another planet.

  6. Well they actually were pretty huge there for a minute, at least in NYC, and also thanks to the t-shirts and the skater connection had a big crossover with non-hardcore types as well. But you know, as the Sick Of It Alls and Raw Deals and the harder bands became the dominant NYHC style they sort of fell out of favor and then they started getting funky and then they REALLY fell out of favor. I'm surprised this is April '89 as I remember seeing them @ CB's later that year and the place was half full. Maybe historically they're not thought of the same now but circa '87/'88 they were one of the top New York bands.

  7. My favorite NYHC band ever. They were the 7 Seconds of the east, positive force connection obviously. I even liked weight of the world, sue me. I was 14 when it came out. Saw them at city gardens and the anthrax. Also their reunited show at wetlands and for the bouncing souls home for the holidays. Disappointed to miss them in Philly at this is hardcore. Jaybird and beneath the streets still kick ass.
