Dischord's "State Of The Union" comp poll results

We like
switching things up here at DCXX and thought it would be interesting to dive into a time and place of D.C. hardcore that we haven't really touched on much. In my opinion this was not exactly the easiest poll to vote on, looking at this roster of bands, there's quite a few that really stand out.

Personally I went with Soulside, they've always been one of my favorite D.C. bands from that era. I can still hear that bass line that opens the song "Bass" on the "Bass / 103" 7", classic. But like I said, so many great bands to choose from... Scream, Ignition, King Face, Marginal Man, One Last Wish and of course Fugazi to name a few. As you can see, Fugazi seems to have taken the cake, can't fault that.

Of course when DCXX photo contributor, Ken Salerno noticed this poll, he pulled out the big guns and hit us up with a ton of great shots from various bands that appeared on the comp. As always, big thanks to Ken and also thanks to everyone who voted. -Tim DCXX

  1. such a great, classic comp, and a testament to the transition period in the late 80's/early 90's when DC style hardcore was transforming into indie rock.

  2. I voted for Ignition. Anger Means is my favorite song on that comp. What an incredible band!

  3. Such a shame there wasn't enough room to put THE HATED on the comp in the end.

  4. i think i remember seeing that Ignition photo in Thrasher mag back in the day.

so many great bands on that comp, and since they often chose the best song from each band (i like Rain a lot but "Worlds at War" is definitely a standout on their 12"), it was hard to choose. i like Ignition a lot and "Anger Means" is a great song, no doubt, but ultimately i went with Fugazi because the poll was for "favorite BAND" and not "favorite song".

  5. Red Emma actually got two votes? Why do I feel like those were joke votes?

Rain has the best song on that comp, hands down.
