Last night I was digging through some boxes in my basement closets and came across a ton of old zines, photos, demos and flyers. Some stuff I knew I had, but some of the stuff I thought was long gone. One particular find was this Unit Pride 1989 Tour flyer. On the opposite side of this flyer was a letter from a guy named Garrett Chow, who happened to be the artist who designed the Unit Pride flyer. I always thought this was a cool design and and the tag line, "Cities Buried Underground Because We Went Off!", made it that much cooler. Finding this one was a pleasant surprise to say the least. Now if I could only find the Unit Pride your shirt with this same design!
Coming across this flyer and all of the other stuff I found gave me the idea of posting some of these random finds. Old ads, Schism postcards, rare flyers and zines, photos, etc., all will eventually find their way to a post here on DCXX. Hopefully you will enjoy this stuff as much as I enjoyed finding it. -Tim DCXX

Wow, your copy of that is much better than mine, which was just a photocopy.
ReplyDeleteI used to love getting flyers from other places with letters on the back.
Any stories about that tour? Who sang?
ReplyDeleteHot show at the Pipeline in NJ. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE covered. Think WELL AWARE played or IN TOUCH? Some local NJ band.
ReplyDeleteI love that half of those "cities" are actually states.
ReplyDeleteOn the topic of old ads, try to find
ReplyDeletethe 1989 Revelation MRR ad that promoted the YOT european tour that
spring. It was a half page ad and had the passports of all the bandmembers on it - cult !!!

Good memory anonymous... InTouch played that show at the Pipeline. Didn't think anyone outisde of Monmouth Cty even knew who they were.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any flyers from shows at oliver j's or wallys? I'm trying to get older local show flyers and not having much luck.
ReplyDeletei always had this love/hate relationship with sxe bands using graffiti...fair enough they gave it a go and make a break from clicheed punk graphics, but half the time the lettering was really lame!
ReplyDeletewonder how much shit was stolen on this tour
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun tour. Question for William Patrick Wend...I followed the link to your copy of the flyer and it mentioned that you interviewed the singer back in 2000. Just curious which "singer" you interviewed, hopefully Eric.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Pipeline show and the Something Must Be Done cover...I remember some people noticing at the show, but Korri only knew the chorus of the song, the rest he just yelled. We we're like, "why didn't you just let one of us sing it if you didn't know the song?"
Funny that 2 things were just mentioned here...how much was stolen from that tour and the thing about graffiti lettering. Anyone with the book Spraycan Art can find the letters that were ripped off to "create" that logo. And as for the other "stealing," karma has definitely been a bitch. I'd love to know who wrote that anonymous comment, either someone close to the situation(s) or just someone who has heard the truth.

ReplyDeleteYes it was Eric!
I need to finally get that interview on the Internet...
Why did Sabatini get chosen as vocalist and why didn't Eric go on that tour?
ReplyDeleteThe artist of this flyer (I believe) is the same Garrett Chow that is part of the MASH SF Bike Crew. He can be seen here blowing away Lance Armstrong:

He also rides to Gorilla Biscuits on the MASH DVD.
