I'm currently the voice for Sleeper Agent!, living in the heart of WDC (after many years of being a resident in the MD suburbs!) again, and working at a really great family-owned Hardware store (from "harDCore to Hardware!"). I'm about to be divorced (but we like/love each other so no ill feelings) from my wife of (9 yrs of living in sin) and 3 years of marriage, and have 1 of our 4-legged meowing children by the name of Cat-astrophe.

Write on, John

  1. G.I. may just be my favorite band. I still have the setlist from an '88 show at City Gardens, NJ. Thanks for all the awesome music John!

  4. The Glover comment is awesome... though I was thinking that shot makes him a dead-ringer for Andy Warhol!!!!!!

These guys were a great band and had no attitude, no bullshit... just good hardcore!

Back in 86-87 they played a last-minute show in an apartment parking garage in Isla Vista (UCSB). We begged them to play on the spot after the other venue had fallen through. A bunch of us (kids) scrounged a ratty PA system and these guys played a raging outdoor set. I will never forget going around the crowd and getting a bit of cash for gas and food for them. It was chump change... and they didn't complain a word. That was fuckin' PUNK!

  10. I remember seeing the Beastie Boys on the Check Your Head tour (H. Rollins opening), and toward the end they launched into "Teenager In A Box". Long story short, I hurt myself, and a number of other people. Thanks John.

  14. Really, one of my favorite bands ever. Saw them a bunch of times, including at CB's in '87, the one that became the "Strange Wine" EP. Stabb was and is totally unique. Great band, Tom Lyle had an amazing guitar sound.

  15. There was a time many years ago when I couldn't go a day without listening to GI. I have more releases by them than any other artist apart from James Brown!

  17. to the 2 anonymous losers dissing this post:

you're worthless pieces of crap that contribute nothing to this world. you obviously have nothing better to do with your time other than hate on a guy who has done nothing but create awesome music that a lot of people enjoy. do us all a favor and get a job, or a girlfriend or whatever just stay away from here with your negative comments.

  20. P. Cortner...I know both John and Mika. Before being disappointed in John talk to them both. Their split was amicable and they remain great friends.

  21. Such nice comments with the exception of some Stabb picture-haytas (wow!)I love the shot for my Cat-astrophe but I hope my longer hair doesn't look like Warhol's wig-yipes! It's much shorter now, annon-fans. As for my smile, I don't think it's been the same since having my face rearranged but that's just me, I guess.

  22. That last comment was really me. I'm John Stabb btw. Oh, having the Beasties cover a G.I. song is cool news to me. I have a recording of them doing "Screaming at a Wall"(Minor ... well, you know-ha!)

and someone noticed my Middle Class-tee. Cheers!

  23. Hey Peter, I hope you're joking, my friend. I could have sworn that Mika & I told you that we were seperated when Gerunds played w/ Sleeper Agent! And we are very cool about it & remain close.

Btw- We were "livin' in Sin at the holiday Inn" for 8 yrs before we married for 2 so we lasted longer than most people in the punk scene.

    John
